Vernacular/Nostalgia: spent Santa
'Sometimes a sight presents itself that's just too good not to capture'.
I’m no street photographer, but sometimes a sight presents itself that’s just too good to ignore.
Welcome to Vernacular/Nostalgia, an occasional exploration of my creativity and curiosity practices in the form of photography, art, and archive finds.
On this occasion, I’d just finished lunch with a colleague, and as we left the cafe, I spotted this Santa, hat off, sat at the bar. He projected a sense of both exhaustion, but also relief at being able to indulge in a drink.
All I had on me was my work mobile, with its poor-quality camera, but I didn’t want to let the opportunity to snap the scene pass me by.
I share the photo with you today, in the countdown to Christmas, as I’m sure many of you will be able to empathise with at least one aspect of its mood.
Have a wonderful festive season and thank you for reading my writing this year.
